Data crunching customer habits

When I first started reading more on big data, I used to feel very lucky. Most of the magazines I read regularly would have articles on big data. Looks like it is possible that an algorithm has identified my reading habits and makes sure I see the big data articles. Nytimes has an article about how retailers like Target use data from our shopping habits to calculate the likelyhood of a life-changing event like a pregnancy, and send us apt coupons that encourage us to shop at their store.
